Former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),
Bamanga Tukur, has expressed concern over recent development in the
country and warned political players not to derail democracy.
Tukur in his reaction to the unfortunate meted out to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, last Thursday, by security operatives, admonished Nigerians entrusted with sensitive public positions to learn to first place national interest above every other consideration.
The Ambassador-at-Large expressed regret that development in the last one week offered illumination that the country was drifting towards chaos.
He further appealed to security operatives to always discharge their statutory assignments with wisdom and tact.
Tukur said: “In the words of the Senate President, David Mark, people should not bring partisan politics into the journey we started so well, so far.”
The former PDP chairman further called for probe of the incident at the National Assembly with a view to making amends and preventing future occurrence.
On the subsisting cold war between serving senators, the PDP national leadership and the Presidency, Tukur called for caution, as he noted that placating the aggrieved party chieftains would go a long way in ensuring a united family ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
He urged members of the PDP to sustain their support for President Goodluck Jonathan in a bid to ensure that the PDP remained in office beyond 2015.
